![]() The Power of One is my personal motorcycle safety program and it could be yours also. Here you will find ideas and safety program material that I and others have created along with links to other grass roots efforts aimed at reducing our risks as we ride. Safety is a two pronged effort: (1) educating ourselves and improving our skills and awareness; (2) educating drivers to be more aware of motorcyclists. Rider skills and safe riding practices are covered in Articles and Tips and the Riding Skills & Safety links page. This section deals only with the issues of driver education, ROW and sharing the road. How this got started: In February 2006 I wrote an article expressing my frustration at not finding a safety oriented organization to join and work for. I also shared some of my thoughts with freelance writer and blogger Wendy Moon. It seemed the only thing to do was work on my own. But that was a daunting thought and I dawdled. The impetus for getting moving was an article Wendy wrote in her journal exploring what we as individuals could do. She titled it The Power of One. Catchy isn’t it? Do read her article and join us in the never ending job of working to make motorcycling safer for all. Start your own personal Power of One program. Information about non-grass roots (i.e. national and state) safety programs along with a number of research reports and public service promotional media are on the Safety Programs links page. |
